What says Happy Valentine’s Day more clearly than a kiss?

Ironically, in the depths of February’s freezing temps, the cold can really sap the life out our skin, especially your delicate, yet hard working lips.

Want to keep your lips looking and feeling luscious? Here are few ideas and recommendations.

  1. PROPER PREP

Is there anything more annoying that when chapped lis become flakey lips? They’re not just a nuisance, they can be super painful and the enemy of your beautiful lipstick. To keep lips looking in tip top condition, what’s good for your face and body is good for your lips, so  gentle exfoliation is the key to preventing lips becoming flakey.

Frank body is the brand behind my favourite ever coffee body scrub know exfoliation. Their lip scrub in light-scattering ‘Shimmer’ and fruity hued and scented ‘Cherry Bomb’ remove flaking and rough skin with their unique infusions of indulgent ingredients like cold-pressed macadamia oil, raw sugar and coffee arabica seed oil. Bonus: the buffing action from massage application helps stimulate collagen production.

2. PRIME

If you want extend the wear of your lip colour, using a lip primer is a great way to keep your lipstick on longer, prevent feathering of the colour and ensure a more even application. Classic choice, MAC Prep + Prime is always a great choice.

3. PROTECT

In the war agains cellulite (a war I’ve willingly admitted defeat in), there's one name on everyone's lips. Sol de Janeiro’s Bum Bum is the go to brand to perfect a peachy posterior, but it turns out they know a thing or two about protecting the delicate skin of the lips too. Their Sol Stick SPF 50 is infused with the brand’s signature ingredients of cupuaçu butter to lock in moisture, antioxidant-rich acai and coconut oil. It needs to be applied 15 minutes before sun exposure and like SPF for the face and body, needs to be reapplied regularly. BONUS: This the ultimate accessory for your beach bound hols as it’s non-toxic to marine life, water resistant and can be used to areas that are easily missed like along the string of a bikini or around the easily neglected ears.

5. PAMPER

You almost can’t talk about lip care without a nod to By Terry Baume de Rose. The cult classic comes in a few different incarnations. Some tinted, some not, but my go to is the the Crystaline SPF 15 with wand applicator. Super nourishing, and great for my pro kit because I can also use for a chic glossy eye or as a cuticle treatment. Chock full of ceramides, Vitamin E and shea butter it leaves lips feeling conditioned and kissably smooth.
